The Signature of God

A Bible Study

This Bible Study was written and presented by Rev. David Krueger. It makes us realize just how special and unique the world God created for us is. We see His fingerprints on all that He created and it also brings to light the fact that all three persons of the Trinity were present at creation and had a part in it. The answer to each question is in bold print immediately following the question. I hope that this Bible Study is as enlightening for all who read it as it was for me.


Almost all artists sign their works in some way, and they have for millennia. Whether those artists make clay pots, marble statues, or paintings, their personal signatures adorn their works. Some of those artists cleverly work their signature into the design of their creations, creating a puzzle for viewers of their works to hunt for carefully as they scrutinize their works. Like a great artist who takes pride in his work, God has signed his creation with the unmistakable stamp of his very being. Modern science, and especially the disciplines of chemistry and physics, has found that signature of God displayed across his creation, both great and small, in letters that simply cannot be ignored.


In his parting instructions to his followers just before he ascended into heaven, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 19-20).


1. What do Jesus words tell us about the nature of God?


The Singular, “name” in the Bible passage denotes God as “one”.


2. How does Jesus’ unusual grammar in his instructions emphasize the nature of God?


The singular, “name” includes all three persons of the trinity.


Throughout the Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures the LORD gives us hints of the nature of his unique being, including a three-in-one structure to most Biblical references to God, especially when he uses his proper name (in caps), the LORD.


3. How does the song of the living creatures before the throne of God (Revelations 4:8) demonstrate this same three-in-one arrangement?


“Holy (1) Holy (2) Holy (3)


Is the Lord (1) God (2) Almighty (3),


Who was (1, past), is (2, present), and is (3, future) to come.”


When you see the name “LORD” in caps in the Bible, you will usually see a reference to the Triune God.

That very same three-in-one structure that God uses in the Hebrew and Greek original languages of the Bible is found stamped into the structure of God’s creation, which is our universe. Water, for example, is the most common molecule in the universe. It is found almost everywhere, including in interstellar space (the space between the stars). Water covers seventy percent of the surface area of the earth. There is so much water on the earth that if the land surface were flat on this planet, water would cover the entire earth to a depth of almost two miles. Water is also the most plentiful and most efficient greenhouse gas in earth’s atmosphere, keeping our planet from freezing solid during winter seasons and keeping summertime temperatures from plunging below freezing at night.


4. What is the chemical makeup of the water molecule?


H2O – made up of 3 parts – 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen


5. In what different thermal states does water exist?


Three different states – solid, liquid, and gas


6. How does the nature of water reflect the nature of its Creator?


It is made up of three atoms and exists in three different forms – 3 in 1. The Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit is one God and three separate persons.


If we look at atoms we see something similar


Electrons


Protons = 1 atom (3 in 1)


Neutrons


7. How does the fabric of atoms show the signature of God on his creation?


Each atom is composed of three parts


If we go to an even smaller unit of matter, the sub-subatomic particles that make up protons and neutrons, we find quarks. The quantum mechanics field of nuclear physics investigates quarks. Quarks are believed to be the smallest building blocks of matter, and are held together by gluons, (the carriers of the fundamental force) which give rise to the nuclear strong force. Exactly three quarks make up a proton or a neutron, no more and no less, and individual quarks have never been detected; they only exist in groups. The three quarks in a proton or neutron are always different from each other in what is called “flavor”.


8. How do quarks once more show the signature of God on his creation?


The three quarks contained in each proton and neutron makes up one unit. Each part is different from the other as is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.


9. How many dimensions are there in space?


There are 3 spatial dimensions – Height, Width, and Depth


10 How many dimensions of time are there?


There are 3 time dimensions – Past, Present, and Future


11. How has God placed his unique signature throughout the physical universe that he made?


The physical universe is made up of 3 in 1 structures


12. How does the special structure of the universe testify to the identity of its creator?


Everything in creation is made up of three parts, which reveals the presence of each person of the Trinity at creation.
