"If You're Going Through Hell..."

Son, remember that in your life time you received your good things...And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us. (Luke 16: 25,26)

The above Bible verses are from a story Jesus told, which Christians refer to as The Rich Man and Poor Lazarus. Lazarus was a begger who sat outside of the rich man's house. He was apparently ill and not able to work, because Jesus tells us in verses 20 and 21, he was covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table...The beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham;s side [Heaven]. Jesus goes on to tell that the rich man died also and went to hell, "Where he was in torment" (Vs. 23). The rich man begs Abraham to have pity on him and send Lazarus to him to cool his tongue from the fires of hell. In verses 25 and 26 above, we hear Abraham's answer to the rich man's plea.

There is a popular country song I hear on the radio. The rhythm and melody is such that it makes me want to sing along. The problem is, that as I sing along, the words I am singing make me feel uncomfortable.

The words go something like this:
If you're going through hell,
keep on going.
Don't look back,
If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out
before the devil even knows you're there!

If you're going through hell,
keep on moving.
Face that fire, walk right through it.
You might get out
before the devil even knows you're there!

The song makes me feel uncomfortable, because I know that once a person is in hell, there is no way out.

It's just a song, but is it misleading people into taking the matter of hell lightly? Hell is a very serious matter and this is one of many ways in which the devil plays with our minds in hopes that we won't take it seriously. He wants us there!!! But Jesus wants us in Heaven.

Jesus won heaven for us when he died on the cross on Good Friday, and rose from the dead on Easter morning. He wants all people to be with him there. His will is not that anyone should go to hell. In
1Timothy 2:3,4 the apostle Paul says, "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth".

All people here on earth share in God's love, believers and unbelievers alike. No amount of pain and suffering we endure here on earth can compare with being in hell, and forever separated from that love. When we face trials God is with us and he will carry us through.

Because of Jesus, believers have a home in heaven specially prepared for them. Because of Jesus, believers never need fear the fires of hell. All people will face death someday, but with God on our side and Jesus interceding for us, heaven will be our eternal home.

Those who reject God's love will face the fires of hell alone for all eternity. Yes, hell is a very serious matter and not to be taken lightly. Are you headed for hell, "Where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched (Mark 9:48), or are you looking forward to the mansions prepared for us in heaven by Jesus, "Where he will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away" (Revalations 21:4)?

Heaven is a free gift from God for all who believe! God wants you there! I am confident that I will be there. I hope to see you there also.
