Please God, Please???

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. ( 1Thessalonians 5:16-18)

I'm sure all of you who are moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas have heard the words Please can I have...please? from your children and grandchildren. I heard it from my own children many times while they were growing up and I'm sure I pleaded many times with my own parents and grandparents as a child, asking for things that I wanted but could not have. Even after we as parents and grandparents answer "no" they don't give up, but keep begging. They may plead persistently with us until we become angry with them.

Have you ever found yourself praying Please God, Please??? Do you pray persistently to God like a little child begging for a toy? Unlike human parents and grandparents, he will not become angry with us. But like our own parents and grandparents he does answer "no" or "wait" to our prayers at times.

I remember one time in my life many years ago when I pleaded persistently with God to spare the life of my two-year-old nephew who was dying of cancer. As I prayed, tears ran down my face. I knew in my heart without a doubt that God had the power to spare his life if it were his will to do so. In the end God took him home to heaven.

God does not always answer "yes" to our prayers, but he does always answer. He answers in his own good time and in a way that he by his almighty wisdom knows is best for us. Unlike the little child who may cry and throw a temper tantrum when he hears the "no" word, as Christians we must accept God's answer of "no" or "not yet" in faith knowing that he can see the big picture and will do what is best for us.

God wants you to pray persistently not only in bad times, but also when your life seems to be going well. He wants you to talk to him daily as you would talk to your best friend. He is your best friend! Talk to him! Tell him about your hopes and dreams. Tell him why you feel sad. Tell him about your bad day. Tell him about your good day. He is waiting to hear from you. He loves you as if you were his only child.

Pray persistently. Never stop. God will hear you and answer.

...How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you.
 (Isaiah 30:19)
